A Tribute to Louise Garvey
Lisa Jackson

Mon0lisa Productions had the privilege of working closely with Louise Garvey over the last 18 months on the development of a film about dementia. What began as a creative collaboration soon became a treasured friendship.
Long before we met, I had heard Louise's name spoken with admiration through her nursing, her poetry, her books, and her commitment to helping others. It seemed that wherever community, care, and creativity came together, Louise's name was never far away.
I finally had the pleasure of meeting her through our work with Bright Ideas Nottingham and Legacy Makers. From that moment, a friendship grew. Louise became a mentor, an encourager, and someone whose belief in people inspired them to achieve more than they thought possible.
She was a strong, no-nonsense woman who spoke honestly, acted with purpose, and cared deeply. Yet alongside that strength was an extraordinary generosity of spirit. Louise gave freely of her time, wisdom, kindness, and love. She was an enabler in the truest sense of the word, always helping others find their confidence and their voice. She had a smile that seemed to say, "You can do it," even when you doubted yourself.
The dementia film project was deeply personal to Louise because it was rooted in love. She often spoke about her beloved husband, Marcus, whose journey with dementia inspired her determination to help others.
One of the things she said that will always stay with me was:
"My Marcus, you see I still can't stop smiling when I say his name. I loved him, and he still loves me. The love of my life."
In those few words, Louise captured something powerful. While dementia can change many things, it cannot erase love.
Drawing on both her professional experience as a nurse and her personal experience as a carer, Louise openly spoke about the challenges families face, particularly within Black communities where dementia can still be misunderstood or surrounded by stigma. She wanted people to have access to information, support, understanding, and hope.
Together, we began developing Timeless Bonds: Embracing Dementia with Love and Courage, a film that reflects Louise's vision of compassion, dignity, resilience, and community. She was passionate about ensuring that others would not have to walk the journey alone.
Louise touched countless lives through her nursing, writing, advocacy, friendship, and unwavering service to others. Her influence can be seen not only in what she achieved, but in the people she encouraged, supported, and inspired along the way.
Mon0lisa Productions is honoured to continue this work in her memory. We are deeply grateful for the support of Broadway Cinema Nottingham and look forward to sharing the film with audiences in October 2026, helping to continue the important conversations Louise cared so deeply about.
Louise believed in people, often before they believed in themselves. As we carry forward the projects and passions she championed, her voice remains with us, encouraging us onward with that familiar smile that seemed to say:
"You can do it."
Her legacy lives on.
